On Thursday, April 16th, we at IBL Software Engineering visited the Pan-European University in Bratislava for their IT Trends lecture series. Representing our team were CEO Michal Weis and Richard Mocák, who spent the day sharing insights and chatting with students about the industry.

The event took place in the university’s student club. This was a great choice because the informal clubhouse atmosphere and the warm welcome from Dean Lacko made it easy to jump straight into an open and engaging dialogue.

Michal kicked things off by sharing the story of IBL. He walked everyone through our journey from a small software foundation to becoming a global engineering partner. A key takeaway from his talk was that building a successful company is about much more than just technical milestones. It is really about the people, the shared values, and a strong cultural core. The students were especially interested in the stories behind our first international breakthroughs.

We even took a quick detour into history to discuss how unexpected weather patterns played a role in Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo. It was the perfect way to show just how much meteorological data has mattered throughout history.

After that, Richard Mocák shifted the focus to the more technical side of our work. He explained the principles of writing robust software and talked about the pros and cons of declarative programming. Using our Online Weather application as a practical case study, Richard showed how a structured approach to code leads to smarter and more maintainable systems in real-world environments.

Since it is such a hot topic, the conversation naturally moved toward Artificial Intelligence. We were able to share firsthand examples of how we use AI at IBL to improve our development workflows and make our systems more reliable.

The best part of the day was the interaction. Because of the casual setting, students felt comfortable asking questions throughout the presentations instead of waiting until the end. This lively exchange showed us that the next generation of IT professionals is incredibly curious and driven. We are really proud to have been a part of their learning journey.
